INFORMATION
DESCRIPTION
Description of the structure The sanitary structures in Kaniaka are officially nonexistent. Instead of those there's a pseudo center of health with private maternity, without equipment and not so much attended because of the elevate prices of the cures and medicines
Staff The center has born for initiative of Mr. Mwangala Ngwej, nurse from the village of Kapanga, that started its activity on Kaniaka in quality of gold seeker, then he opened a small pharmacy in the 2001 and subsequently a center of health with maternity
Structure The building dedicated to maternity is constructed of bricks and has the roof in straw. Inside is divided in three small rooms with beds in bamboo and mattresses of bag filled up with dry grass. Also the building of the pharmacy is constructed of bricks.
Operation The nurse works alone and operates in following fields:
- maternity,
- pediatric,
- gynecology,
- inner medicine.
N.B.: the laboratory examinations are made Lubumbashi because in native place the necessary materials do not exist. The nurse faces the simpler cases but for those most serious he advises the members of the family of the patient to take him in the hospital centers of Lubumbashi and for the urgent cases he transports the sick in city by bicycle. It's for this reason that many patient do not survive to the way or die in the village because of lack of transports.
When he is absent in order to carry out the laboratory examinations, to buy produced druggist or to make visit the sons who study in city, the center remains closed, exept the pharmacy that remains in the hands of the wife, instructed by the nurse.
Pregnant women have no way to have prenatal consult. Moreover the nurse does not have all medicines necessary in order to answer to needs of population and he cannot enjoy the aid neither of State nor of whichever local benefactor.
Diseases The more frequent diseases are:
- malaria,
- bronchopneumonia,
- bronchiti,
- meningiti,
- diphtheria,
- dysentery.
Modality of payment In order to pay patients can pay with currency but in the greater part of the cases they offer their own objects (bicycles, radio, bowls, etc). In alternative, or the members of the families of the patients or the patients himself after the recovery work for the nurse in order to reward him for the carried out job
Rate mortality The mortality rate is very elevated especially for children under 4 years old
